Leon has come from a trade background. He has worked in Landscaping while studying Conservation. Leon’s skills in handling of tools and equipment, as well as his understanding of agricultural boundaries, made him a perfect candidate for installing electric dog fences.
After completing his degree, Leon has taken an interest in finding the balance between Native animals and family pets. Leons intense interest in animal behavior and the issues coupled with domestic pet problems led him to Hidden Fence. Recognising that escaping and wandering behavior in dogs is of a “critical” nature, Leon came on board and has been trained by the best in the Hidden Fence group.
Leons previous experience in landscaping and current education in animal behavior at a core level makes him very efficient at visualizing space and installing dog fence systems with maximizing the space in which a dog can play, but also make sure containment is satisfied.
What the most satisfying about being a hidden fence professional in southern Victoria?
Keeping pets safe, all day. While owners are at work they don’t have to worry if their pets are safe. Also knowing that the pets aren’t tied up at home all day, they are free to roam the backyard using all the potential space.
What’s your favourite breed of dog to train to an electronic dog fence containment system, and why?
Growing up around German Sheppard’s and Dobermans I have always had a soft spot for them. Most dogs are great, especially very active ones as they usually have a high drive and are always keen to please their owner.
What’s your favourite hidden fence dog containment system to use in the field, and why?
All the systems are great to work with but the one that stands out is the PT4. It can handle any property, large or small. One of the things that makes it stand out is the LED distance signal. This shows you the exact distance the signal is from the boundary. This along with the Patented Safelink Digital FM/DM signal software which, minimises unintentional activation of the dogs programmable receiver collar makes it all round great to work with.
Do you have a good story to share about containing a customer’s pet?
Most people who care for their pets have some great stories to share with me. One that particularly stands out was a family from south east Melbourne. They had a Toy Poodle and it kept getting out of their well fenced yard. Eventually they saw it could climb the front gates. It was great solving their little problem
What’s the hardest install you’ve encountered?
Rain isn’t you friend when working out in the field. I was doing a job on an acre property in the rain, the ground was very muddy and lots of ferns. After putting in all the cable work I realised i was covered in leaches that had dropped off the ferns onto me. I was fairly shocked and very hesitant to trod near the ferns for the rest of the day
